Teaching Musical Thinking

Why music lessons should develop judgment, not only correct execution.

Good teaching does more than correct mistakes. It gives students the tools to understand why something works.

Technique matters, but technique without judgment becomes fragile. Students need to learn how to compare possibilities, listen to consequences, ask better questions, and make decisions that are musically justified.

The point is not to make every student sound the same. The point is to help each student become more responsible for the sound they create.
